چکیده
Objective: To compare surgical outcomes and oncologic efficacy between minimally invasive esophagectomy (MIE) and open esophagectomy (OE) for operable esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. Methods: 81 consecutive esophageal squamous cell carcinoma patients who underwent MIE and another 81 patients who underwent open resection between January 2007 and December 2013 were enrolled in this study. Results: There were no significant differences in the demographic characteristics and pathological features between the two groups of patients. Regarding short-term outcomes, blood loss, post-operative analgesia and postoperative stay were significantly shorter in the MIE group than in the open group, while operation time was significantly longer in the MIE group than in the open group. Overall morbidity was similar in the two groups. There were no significant differences in the 5-year overall and disease-free survival rate between the two groups. In multivariate analysis, surgical approach was not found to be a significant predictor for overall survival and disease-free survival. Conclusion: This casecontrol study presented that MIE may be a safe and acceptable procedure in terms of long-term results for operable esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.

Comparison the Outcomes of Open Thoracotomy and Minimally Invasive Thoracoscopic Esophagectomy in Esophageal Cancer
Introduction: Surgery is the first therapeutic option for esophageal cancer. There is controversy over the selection of the best surgical approach. Regarding this, the present study aimed to compare the minimally invasive and open esophagectomy in terms of their short-term outcomes and preoperative complications. Materials & Methods: This randomized clinical trial was conducted on 61 patients i...
متن کاملVery long-term outcomes of minimally invasive esophagectomy for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma.
PURPOSE The most critical parameter in the evaluation of the effectiveness of minimally invasive esophagectomy for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is long-term outcome. In this study, patients in whom more than 5 years had elapsed since they had undergone minimally invasive esophagectomy for esophageal SCC were identified, and the 5-year overall survival (OS) rate and 5-year disease-fr...

The purpose of this retrospective study was to investigate the value of minimally invasive esophagectomy (combined thoracoscopic-laparoscopic esophagectomy) for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma in elderly patients (≥70 years). From January 2009 to December 2014, 58 consecutive patients aged older than 70 years with clinical stage stage I or II esophageal squamous cell carcinoma underwent mini...
متن کاملAsymptomatic Diaphragmatic Hernia Diagnosed after Six Years Following Esophagectomy: A Case Report
Diaphragmatic hernia, secondary to transhiatal esophagectomy, appears to be a relatively infrequent diagnosis. Patients may be asymptomatic or present with various symptoms. Diagnosis of this condition requires a high index of suspicion. The most common cause of diaphragmatic hernia is widened esophageal hiatus during surgery; therefore, narrowing the hiatus can prevent conduit herniation. Here...

Only a few series have demonstrated the safety and efficacy of minimally invasive esophagectomy (MIE) for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma and the benefits of this approach. This report describes the results of a pair-matched comparative study between minimally invasive and open esophagectomy (OE) for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. Patients were retrospectively matched in pairs for the f...
